Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Sydney Sixers have decided to challenge the decision of a four-match ban for England cricketer Tom Curran. The Sixers on Thursday, 21 December confirmed that they will lodge an appeal in regard to the ban handed by Cricket Australia under the breach of Code of Conduct.
Speaking in an official release, Head of Sydney Sixers Rachael Haynes stated, “Tom and the club maintain that Tom did not knowingly or intentionally intimidate a match official, and on legal advice, we will exercise our right to appeal the decision. We will support Tom during this period and look forward to him returning to the field.”
The England all-rounder was sanctioned with a four-match suspension for allegedly intimidating an umpire ahead of the match against Hobart Hurricanes. Curran was charged with Level 3 breach under the Clause 2.17 of the CA Code of Conduct which relates to “Intimidation or attempted intimidation of an Umpire or Match Referee whether by language or conduct (including gesture) during a Match.”
The third placed Sydney Sixers will take on Adelaide Strikers in Match 11 of the BBL 2023-24 at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on Friday, 22 December. The Moises Henriques-led side have so far won both their games and have four points in their kitty.
