The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is not taking the controversial umpiring decisions against Bangladesh lightly in their game against India at the T20 World Cup 2022 on Wednesday (2 November). As Bangladesh’s vice-captain Nurul Hasan accused India’s Virat Kohli of fake fielding, BCB has taken cognisance of the matter and has said that it will raise the issue in a proper forum.

Notably, India beat Bangladesh by five runs in a rain-curtailed match to dent the Tigers’ qualification chances for the semifinals. India posted a hefty 184/6 in their 20 overs on the back of half-centuries from Virat Kohli (64* off 44) and KL Rahul (50 off 31) and a quickfire 31 (16) from Suryakumar Yadav. However, Bangladesh was on top having scored 66 runs in 7 overs without losing any wicket before the rain halted the play.

But when the game resumed with the revised target (151 to get in 16 overs), Bangladesh lost quick wickets and eventually lost the game by five runs. As the match ended, Bangladesh's vice-captain accused Kohli of fake fielding. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan was asked if the umpires made a mistake by immediately starting the game after the rain. The Bangladesh skipper denied blaming the wet outfield for the loss stating that it generally favours the batting side.

However, fans back in Bangladesh surely did not agree with their captain as they bombarded social media with posts criticizing the poor umpiring during the game. Now, a BCB official has confirmed that the country’s cricket board will raise this issue (mainly regarding fake fielding) in a proper forum.

"We have spoken about it. You have seen it in the TV and everything happened in front of you. There was one regarding fake throw and we have notified the umpires about the fake throw but he said he did not notice it and that is the reason he did not take the review. Shakib discussed a lot about it with Erasmus and even spoke with him after game," BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Younus said.
