The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. The biennial tournament will have 55 matches in total, to be played in the Caribbean and the United States of America from June 1 to June 29.
In the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup 2024, there will be a record 20 teams, divided into four groups of five teams each, vying for the coveted trophy. The top two teams from each of the four groups will make it through to the Super 8, where they will be split into two groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each of the two Super 8 groups will make it through to the knockout stage, which will culminate with two semi-finals and the grand final of the T20 World Cup 2024, which will go down at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.
India are in Group A of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, alongside their arch-rivals Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and one of the hosts, the United States of America. Their tournament will begin with a match against Ireland on June 5, at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in East Meadow, New York, the USA.
Notably, after winning the T20 World Cup in its first edition in 2007, the Indian cricket team is yet to replicate their heroics in the last 17 years.
In the previous edition of the T20 World Cup, which was played in Australia in 2022, India went down in the semi-final against the eventual winners England by 10 wickets. Furthermore, Team India hasn’t won an ICC trophy at the senior level in the last decade or so, which is why the pressure will be immense on the captain Rohit Sharma, and the rest of the players to deliver the goods this time around.
Here is India’s squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024:
