The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup at home. The quadrennial spectacle of cricket will be played in India, with the first match beginning on October 5 between the defending champions England and the runners-up New Zealand, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
ODI World Cup 2023 will feature ten nations, who are going to play against each once during the round robin stage of the tournament. The teams participating in the ICC Cricket World Cup this October and November will be the hosts India, England, New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Netherlands.
The top four teams at the end of round robin stage will make the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023. The top placed team in the competition will play the number four team in one of the semi-finals, while the second placed team will take on the number third team in the other semi-final, to determine the two finalists, one of which will be crowned new champions of the world.
Rohit Sharma is going to captain India in the ODI World Cup 2023 at home, which will be his biggest assignment as the leader of the national team. He will have the former captain, Virat Kohli, who had led the Indian cricket team in the previous edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup, to rely on with Hardik Pandya being his deputy.
The campaign for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 will begin on October 8 against Australia, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Just a few days later, they will facing-off against Pakistan on October 14, to write the next chapter in their historic rivalry, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
