It has hardly been 24 hours since the announcement of BCCI that stated Rohit Sharma will be leading India's ODI team going forward, the internet has got filled with the opinions of people, who are predicting the reason behind the decision and the consequences of it.
To make things sound bad, it was reported that Virat Kohli was asked by BCCI to resign from captaincy within 48 hours and when the skipper didn't respond in the stipulated two days' time, the board decided to take his captaincy away and award it to Rohit Sharma. Before the matter could get further worse, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly opened up on the issue.

It is worth noting that Virat Kohli stepped down from his role of T20I skipper with the conclusion of India's campaign at the recently-concluded T20 World Cup in UAE. Rohit Sharma took over the responsibility from Kohli post that. Ganguly revealed that the selectors didn't want to use split captaincy in the white-ball formats.
"It's a call that the BCCI and the selectors took together. Actually, the BCCI had requested Virat to not step down as the T20I skipper but obviously, he did not agree. And the selectors then did not feel it right to have two different captains for two white-ball formats," Ganguly told ANI.
The BCCI president also revealed that both he and the selectors spoke to Kohli regarding the issue.
"So it was decided that Virat will continue as Test captain and Rohit will take over as the white-ball captain. I as President personally spoke to Virat Kohli and the Chairman of Selectors has also spoken to him," Ganguly said, adding, "We have full faith in Rohit Sharma's leadership abilities, and Virat will continue as the Test captain. We as BCCI are confident that Indian cricket is in good hands. We thank Virat Kohli for his contributions as captain in the white-ball format."
