The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) kickstarted with a bang on Saturday, March 22 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, the tournament will see the Kolkata venue host seven matches, but there is an uncertainity looming over Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), which is scheduled to take place on April 6.

However, the talks surrounding this have been going on ahead of the tournament, but recent reports have revealed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now come up with a new twist. It is to be noted that the match coincides with the occasion of Ram Navami, which is widely celebrated in the City of Joy.

BCCI is actively working to ensure match takes place in Kolkata: BCCI source

The Kolkata Police has time and again informed Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on the difficulty to provide apt security due to the clash with Ram Navami. As informed by the CAB President, Snehasish Ganguly, Kolkata Police has informed that they won’t be able to provide security as more than 20,000 processions are expected in West Bengal.

But as per the latest report, a BCCI source informed, as quoted by India Today, “Despite potential security concerns surrounding the festival, the BCCI is actively working with the Kolkata Police to ensure the match takes place at its originally planned venue.” It is to be noted that in IPL 2024, the match between KKR and Rajasthan Royals (RR) was also rescheduled due to a similar scenario.
