The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is all set to return with its third edition, early next month. After the successful completion of the first two editions of the Women’s T20 league, the third edition is likely to commence from February 6 or 7. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce the official dates of the tournament, but according to reports, it is likely to begin in the first week of February.
Moreover, reports quoting Cricbuzz also suggest that the T20 league will be held across two venues. If reports are to be believed, BCCI has already finalised the potential venues of the upcoming tournament.
WPL to kickstart from February 6 or 7; Baroda to host final: Reports
According to Cricbuzz, the third edition will be held in two phases across two cities. The BCCI has shortlisted Baroda and Lucknow as the venues for the marquee tournament. Moreover, the report adds that Baroda will stage the second phase, including the finale. The BCCI intends to host 23 matches across the two venues with BCA set to get the second phase and the final likely to be played on either March 8 or 9.
These reports come after the Indian cricket board has held informal discussions with the Uttar Pradesh cricket Board (UPCA) and the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA). Moreover, it has to be seen that Baroda recently raised an international standard facility - the Kotambi Stadium, which also hosted the three-match ODI series between India Women and West Indies Women. The stadium has also been a venue for several T20 matches a few Ranji Trophy matches. The Kotambi Stadium will also host the knockout rounds of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, starting from January 9.
