Current Big Bash League (BBL) champions Hobart Hurricanes have roped in Australia all-rounder Beau Webster for the next three seasons. Back in 2016, the right-handed batter kicked off his BBL career with the Hurricanes, which is also his hometown club. Playing his debut season, he couldn’t do much with both bat and ball. Following the failure, Webster joined the Melbourne Renegades for the next season.
Serving the Renegades from 2017-21, he racked up 683 runs from his bat in 31 innings of 36 games. He recorded his best season in the 2019-20 BBL, where he ended up as the second-highest run-scorer for the Renegades, with 425 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 131.98. The Tasmania-born Aussie concluded his journey with the Renegades in 2021, after receiving a contract from the Melbourne Stars.
The Stars team management wanted him to don the role of all-rounder and as per expectations, he delivered decent numbers to the side, amassing 818 runs and 18 wickets in 42 outings during his three years with the team. His decision to switch from spinner to medium pacer has got him a little success as he added 17 wickets to his profile while appearing for the Stars in the previous three seasons.
Salliann Beams expresses joy while talking about Webster’s return to the Hurricanes
Discussing his overall BBL numbers, the 31-year-old has racked up 1577 runs and 19 wickets in 83 matches. Tasmania High Performance General Manager Salliann Beams expressed joy while talking about Webster’s return to the Hurricanes. She said, "We have seen over the past eighteen months just how special of a player Beau is, and to have him re-join the Hurricanes is something that will make all Tasmanians proud to hear."
She also added, "Beau's skill set in the short form of the game is up there with some of the best in the country, and he can take the game away from the opposition with the bat while also providing another wicket-taking option with the ball. His leadership will also be a vital aspect of his role at the Hurricanes, and he is great mates with the players we already have on our list which means he will fit into what we are trying to build seamlessly."
2024 has brought luck for Beau Webster
Besides this decent deal, Beau Webster also got the opportunity to make his international debut for Australia. He was one of the members of Australia’s XI that clashed with India in the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The game marked his debut in internationals. He hit the winning runs from his bat and helped the Aussie to claim the distinguished trophy after 10 years. The right-handed player also notched up a fifty in the first innings. Currently, the all-rounder is currently an essential part of Australia’s Test squad that is taking on Sri Lanka in their backyard.
