England all-rounder Ben Stokes has decided to come out of ODI retirement and is set to be a part of England’s squad against New Zealand. The England and Wales Cricket Board announced the ODI and T20I squad for the series against New  Zealand . The 32-year-old has been picked up for the four-match ODI series against the Kiwis.

Not only this, but the ODI squad is expected to travel to India for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, scheduled in months of October- November.  Notably, Stokes announced his retirement from the 50-over format in July 2022, after a game against South Africa in Durham.

Luke Wright, the National Selector of England Men’s cricket team, in an official statement said, "This is the squad we are going to put forward.

Wright added, "It's incredibly hard on some players that are going to miss out. It shows the strength and depth we have in English Cricket and there are other names who are knocking on the door as well. With the balance of the squad, and with only fifteen that you can name it's incredibly tough."

“The return of Ben Stokes only adds to that quality with his match-winning ability and leadership. I am certain that every fan will enjoy seeing him back in an England ODI shirt again.

The England Test skipper was a star performer in the 2019 World Cup, where he scored brilliant 84* to help his side clinch the title. He was awarded Player of the Match for his explosive knock after his side took down New Zealand in a super-over drama.
