FIFA on Monday, January 15th hosted the Best FIFA Football Awards 2023 ceremony in London. In the ceremony, star player and Argentina great Lionel Messi was crowned FIFA’s Best Men’s Player for 2023 while Spain’s Aitana Bonmati received the FIFA best Women’s Player award. While it was the third for Messi, who came out on top edging over City striker Erling Haaland and PSG attacker Kylian Mbappe.  

Notably, Messi previously won the Best Men’s Player Award in 2019 and 2022. His 2023 award comes after he scored nine goals for PSG as they won the French Ligue 1 title and added ten goals in seven games for Inter Miami during their inaugural leagues Cup triumph in the US.

Other than this, Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola received the Best Men’s Coach, while six members from his side found themselves in the FIFA FIFPro Men’s World XI. Moreover, the Pukas Award, which is given to the best goal, was awarded to Guiherme Madruga from Botafogo-SP. It is to be noted that the FIFA best Awards and the Pukas Award were judged from 19 December 2022 to 20 August 2023 and did not include the Qatar World Cup.
