After a poor start in batting, India were successful to avoid follow-on in the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy test against Australia by the end of day four at The Gabba in Brisbane. With KL Rahul and skipper Rohit Sharma coming to resume the play after 51/4 Rohit couldn’t add more runs and got out after scoring 10(27) runs. After that, Ravindra Jadeja joined KL Rahul at the crease as the duo took the innings further. 

KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja put up a partnership of 67 runs as India recovered from early breakthroughs. Rahul got out after scoring 84(139) runs with eight boundaries, while Jadeja contributed with 77(123) hitting seven fours and a six. India again started losing wickets at regular intervals as the score was reduced to 213/9. 

Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah’s crucial partnership help India avoiding follow-on

India were now trailing by 232 runs with 33 runs still needed to avoid follow-on. Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah took charge of the innings as the duo put up a crucial partnership of 39 runs before the end of play on day four as India were successful in avoiding the follow-on. Akash Deep remained unbeaten on 27*(31), while Bumrah scored 10*(27) as India finished the day on 252/9. The umpire decided to call off the day’s play due to bad lighting. 

However, Australia are still 193 ahead in the first innings but the hosts have to bat again with one day remaining in the Test match. For Australia, skipper Pat Cummins led from the front taking four scalps, while Mitchell Starc scalped three. Apart from that, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon scalped a wicket.
