Cricket Australia (CA) on Sunday, December 29 confirmed that Josh Inglis will miss the fifth and final Test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. The 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batter notably, hasn’t featured in the ongoing series down under despite being named in the side since the start of it.

While he was unlikely to make his Test debut in Sydney as he served as a back-up option for veteran Alex Carey, who has featured in all four Tests so far. But on Sunday, CA confirmed Inglis’ injury, ruling him out of the Sydney Test, which is set to be played from January 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

However, the 29-year-old didn’t feature in any matches, he took the field on couple of occasions. During his fielding stint, Inglis sustained calf strain and will be unavailable for selection for a significant period. Moreover, CA further added that a decision on his availability to feature in Big Bash League (BBL) will also be taken after further assessment.

“His availability for the Big Bash League will be determined by his return to play management plan,” CA said, as quoted by Code Sports. Earlier, Beau Webster was also released from the Australian squad to ply his trade for Melbourne Stars in the BBL. However, it is being reported that he’ll rejoin the side in Melbourne on Sunday, December 29. Moreover, if reports are to be believed, in Josh Inglis’ absence, Australia are set to add Peter Handscomb. Additionally, they might get back Nathan McSweeney in the side after he was dropped for the fourth Test in Melbourne.
