After losing their second consecutive World Test Championship Final in the first week of June, Team India returned to action for the red-ball series against the West Indies. On Day 2 of the ongoing Test series, the Indian cricket team shattered many records as captain Rohit Sharma and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal become the first opening pair to register a 100-run partnership for the first wicket. However, the on-field banter and comments garnered all the attention, and one such incident involved veteran batter Virat Kohli.
India consolidated on their lethal bowling attack led by the number 1 Test bowler Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as the visitors took the lead without losing a wicket. After skipper Rohit Sharma's dismissal, Shubman Gill lost his wicket early which brought Virat Kohli onto the field, who faced some difficulties at the Windsor Park in Dominica.
Kohli took 80 deliveries to score his first boundary and while he was struggling, Windies part-time bowler Kraigg Brathwaite created more trouble for the former India skipper. During the innings on Day 2, Kohli was heard saying "Bhatta phenk raha hai (he is throwing rocks)," which appeared to be questioning Braithwaite's bowling action's legality. However, no action was taken as Kohli didn't complain to the umpire.
Although the video or recording of the incident isn't available at the moment, fans were quick to raise their voice on the incident after Virat was heard on the stump mic. Many fans took to Twitter to react on the incident while some questioned the West Indies skipper's bowling action.
Talking about the game, Team India have taken a 162-run lead against the Windies at the end of Day 2. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal combined for a 229-run partnership for the first wicket as the Indian skipper was dismissed at 103 runs by Alick Athanaze while Jaiswal continued his dominant performance and currently batting on 143 runs. On the other hand, Shubman Gill, who came to bat at No.3, departed on six runs while Virat Kohli is currently batting on 36 runs.
Virat Kohli and Jaiswal have scored a partnership of 72 runs as India are 312 for 2 at Day 2 stumps. It will be interesting to see when India will declare their innings and the lead they take against the hosts after the first inning.
