Afghanistan scripted history as they defeated England in their third clash of ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on October 15, Sunday. The Afghans were going winless in the tournament before they defeated the reigning world champions by 69 runs and finally opened their winning account. Not only this, but Afghanistan were on a defeated streak of 15 matches, but their collective efforts helped them take down in who are considered as one of the strongest teams.

The game started with England skipper Jos Buttler winning the toss and opting to field first. The fiery unbeaten knock by Rahmanullah Gurbaz helped them post a score of 284 runs in 49.5 overs. It seemed that Hashmatullah Shahidi and Co. were in no mood to let go of the game as they quickly dismissed all England batters to secure a 69-run win in the game.
The defeat of the 2019 winners has been titled as the biggest upset in World Cup by fans on Twitter. Not only this, but the viral Afghanistan fan girl, Wazhma Ayoubi, also congratulated her side on the historic fan, while thanking Indian fans for supporting them in the match.
