Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund has received a hefty fine of 75,000 euros ($91,000) following their win over Schalke on Saturday. The players supposedly broke German football’s social distancing rules during their celebration in the team bus. Around 150-200 fans were also allowed to gather outside the Dortmund Training Center, who greeted the players when the team bus returned from the game.

Dortmund breached the health protocols

After the celebration videos surfaced on social media, DFL released an official statement. It said, "There is no question that the derby is a special game. Nevertheless, the club has the responsibility to control and monitor compliance with the rules. All matches must be held in compliance with the currently valid medical-hygienic concept, including the arrival and departure (of teams).”

The league confirmed on Monday that Dortmund have been fined 75,000 euros ($91,000) for breaching the health protocols. They added that the players did not maintain social distancing during their celebrations in the team bus and were also seen not wearing masks.

The German Club has reportedly accepted the fine and has issued an apology for their actions. Dortmund also assured that they will speak with the police and with everyone involved, to prevent similar kinds of incidents in future.
