The much-awaited 17th season of the Indian Premier League will commence on Friday with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squaring off against Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ahead of the IPL 2024, last season's runners-up Gujarat Titans have replaced injured Robin Minz with Karnataka wicketkeeper-batter BR Sharath.
Gujarat Titans made waves in the IPL 2024 mini-auction after signing Jharkhand wicket-keeper batter Robin Minz for a prize of ₹3.6 Crore. However, the 21-year-old cricketer, who became the first indigenous cricketer in the recent auction, was ruled out of the IPL 2024 following a bike accident.
Minz is originally from Gumla district in Jharkhand and was selected by Mumbai Indians for an international training camp in the United Kingdom in August 2023.
BR Sharath – a wicketkeeper-batter – represents Karnataka in Domestic Cricket. He has so far played 28 T20s, in addition to 20 First-Class matches and 43 List-A games, and has 328 T20 runs against his name. He will join GT for his base price of ₹20 lakh.
