The Queensland state government has pledged $1.8 billion to rebuild the Gabba Cricket Stadium for the 2032 Olympic Games. As per Reuters, the state has 80% of the venues already in place for the games, with the expectation that the infrastructure will stay useful long after the quadrennial spectacle.

Still, there are concerns around rebuilding the 128-year-old Gabba Cricket Stadium, which traditionally hosts the first Test match of the Australian, in regard to over budgeting and high carbon footprint for the Olympics 2032. It led to Adrian Schinner resigning from the forum with a statement, “I will be resigning immediately from the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Intergovernmental Leaders’ Forum. I will no longer fall into line and support the State Government’s current Gabba plan.”

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner spoke about how the plan from the Queensland state government to make the ratepayers shell money for the new RNA Stadium was the final straw for him. “The state government's ham-fisted and foolish attempt to extort Brisbane ratepayers for tens of millions of dollars for a new RNA Stadium was the final straw.” “I've been listening to the people of Brisbane. They are saying we need to do something other than the state government's plan on the Gabba needs to be rethought,” he further added.
