Indian shuttlers began their campaign at the BWF World Championships on Monday, August 21. On Day 1 of the tournament, which will be played till 27 th August in Copenhagen, Denmark saw World No. 9 HS Prannoy survive and move into the second round of the competition. Lakshya Sen also beat his Mauritian opponent to advance into Round 2.
Talking about HS Prannoy, the World No. 9 registered a straight game win over his Finnish opponent Kalle Koljonen. The Indian shuttler, who has reached the quarterfinals in the last two editions, saw hand the Finland national a 24-22, 21-10 win. With this, Prannoy also extended his head-to-head record to 3-0.
On the other hand, 11 th seeded Lakshya Sen also entered the second round of the competition as he defeated Georges Julien Paul of Mauritius on Monday, 21 August. The Indian shuttler claimed a straight game win, 21-12, 21-7 in just 25 minutes to start the campaign at high.
Talking about other Indian shuttlers, the Indian mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy lost to the Swedish duo of Adam Hall and Julie Macpherson. The Indian pair lost 21-19, 20-22, 21-18, despite coming back to take the second set. Kidambi Srikanth will also feature on Day 1 as he will take Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto.
