Cricket Australia on Wednesday, January 24 announced 14-member squad for the upcoming T20I series against West Indies. Australia will host West Indies in a three-match T20I series, starting February 9 at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. While CA has named Mitchell Marsh as the skipper of the side, Glenn Maxwell will also be marking his return in the shortest format.

It is to be noted that the 32-year-old all-rounder last led the side in South Africa in August-September 2023. His appointment comes as a surprise with Australia looking at possible contenders to take the reins for the T20 World Cup 2024. While Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc both have been rested for the upcoming series along with Steve Smith. Matt Short, Nathan Ellis and Glenn Maxwell will however make their return.  

Glenn Maxwell returns after freak accident in Adelaide

35- year-old Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is all set to mark his return in the shortest format after surviving a freak accident in Adelaide last week. Maxwell was earlier dropped from the Test and omitted from ODI squad to ‘manage workload’. However, in a bizarre accident, Maxwell’s collapse led to him being hospitalised as he reportedly lost unconsciousness.

Maxwell’s manager further revealed that the Aussie all-rounder “is okay” and “a little embarrassed”. Maxwell moreover further informed Chief Selector George Bailey of the situation and was cleared of the CA’s investigation.
