Cameron Green, the Australian all-rounder has been ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series. The decision came on Monday, October 14, after the Aussie all-rounder opted for a surgery, seeing his future as an all-rounder. It is to be noted that Green was taken for scans in London during Australia’s tour of England. The 25-year-old complained of soreness after the conclusion of the third ODI against England in Chester-le-Street, which showed that he had suffered an injury.
However, Green has a history of stress fractures, he will undergo a surgery this week on his spine, ruling him out for upto six months. "Whilst spine stress fractures are not unusual in pace bowlers, Cam has a unique defect in an adjacent area to the fracture that is believed to be contributing to the injury," Cricket Australia said in its statement .
Cameron would benefit from surgery: Cricket Australia
Conveying Green’s decision to undergo the surgery, thus ruling him out of the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Cricket Australia further added, “After thorough consultation it was determined Cameron would benefit from the surgery to stabilise the defect and reduce the risk of future recurrence.” “The decision to proceed to surgery is with Cameron’s long-term future as an all-rounder in mind,” CA further added in its statement, confirming that the recovery time is anticipated to be around six months.
Moreover, Green's surgery will rule him out of the upcoming assignments of Australian cricket team, including the five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy, which is set to commence from November 22 in Perth. Green is set to miss the entire summer of cricket, including the tour of Sri Lanka and the Champions Trophy, which is set to be played in Pakistan in February-March 2025.
