Pakistan team are in a spot of bother after losing to India by 228 runs in the Super Four match at Colombo (RPS) as they may not qualify for the finals of this Asia Cup 2023 event with Sri Lanka and India also having two points in the table respectively after playing just one game.
Here, in this article, we will see if Pakistan still have a chance to qualify for the finals of Asia Cup 2023 (or) not.
The remaining schedule of Asia Cup 2023 in the Super Four Stage:
SL vs IND in Colombo(RPS), 12th Sep
SL vs PAK in Colombo(RPS), 14th Sep
IND vs BAN in Colombo(RPS), 15th Sep
Now if Pakistan beats Sri Lanka on September 14 then Pakistan will reach four points in the table.
- Bangladesh can get only two points from this Super Four stage, hence, they will stand eliminated
- The Sri Lanka vs India game will be a crucial match in the context of this scenario.
(i.) If India beats Sri Lanka, then Sri Lanka can have a maximum of two points only provided Pakistan beats Sri Lanka later, hence, Pakistan will qualify for the finals of Asia Cup 2023 along with India
(ii.) If Sri Lanka beats India, then there is a chance that all three teams (SL, IND, PAK) could end up with four points provided Pakistan beats Sri Lanka and India beats Bangladesh later. In this case, NRR will play a crucial role and two teams with better NRR can qualify.
Assuming, the second scenario it's important that Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by a big margin in case Sri Lanka manages to defeat India earlier.
- If India loses their next two games consecutively to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, then Pakistan can qualify with a win against Sri Lanka easily into the finals of Asia Cup 2023.
