Former World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz became the latest top-ranked player to withdraw from the ongoing Monte Carlo Masters 2024. The Spaniard was set to face Felix Auger-Aliassime in his opening match of the tournament on Wednesday, April 10.
Alcaraz confirmed his withdrawal after taking to social media and sharing an update after he was seen wearing strapping on his right forearm during the practice sessions at the tournament. “I have been working in Monte Carlo and trying to recover until the last minute from an injured pronator teres in my right arm, but it was not possible and I cannot play,” he captioned the post on X (formerly Twitter).
“I was really looking forward to playing ….. See you next year!” he further added. It is to be noted that Alcaraz will miss the tournament for the second straight time. In 2023, the two-time Grand Slam winner skipper the clay-court event due to post-traumatic arthritis in his left hand and muscular discomfort in the spine.
The 20-year-old’s only appearance came in 2022, when he received a bye into the second round and then lost to Sebastian Korda. This implies, that the Spaniard is yet to win a match at the Monte Carlo Masters.
