World No.1 tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the ATP Finals 2022 as well as the Davis Cup Finals due to an injury. The 19-year-old has suffered an internal oblique muscle tear in his left abdominal wall. The Spaniard tweeted on Saturday revealing his injury and confirmed that he will not take in the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup Finals.

"After my withdrawal yesterday and having been evaluated by my medical team, @drlopezmartinez and @JuanjoMoreno_M, unfortunately, this is the result of my injury: an internal oblique muscle tear in the left abdominal wall with an estimated recovery time of six weeks," Alcaraz tweeted.

"Unfortunately, I won't make the ATP Finals or the Davis Cup Finals. It is tough and painful for me to miss these two events, which are so important to me, but all I can do is be positive and focus on my recovery. Thank you for the support!" he added

With this withdrawal, Alcaraz’s season comes to an end. The Spaniard ends his season with a 57-13 record. The 19-year-old also won the US Open by beating some of the finest players in the circuit. He defeated Casper Rudd 6–4, 2–6, 7–6(7–1), 6–3 in the Men’s Singles final to lift his first major title.

With this win at the US Open, Alcaraz became the youngest major champion since Nadal at the 2005 French Open, the youngest US Open champion since Pete Sampras in 1990, the first man born in the 2000s to win a major singles title, and the youngest man to be ranked world No. 1 in tennis history, surpassing the record Lleyton Hewitt held. The Spaniard also won five tour-level titles in 2022, including his first two ATP Masters 1000 victories (Miami and Madrid).
