2 years and 13 days - No, we are not talking about any dialogue of Shahrukh Khan's movie! Instead, this is how long fans have been waiting for Virat Kohli's 71st international century. The last ton from the bat of Team India's Test captain came way back on 23 November, 2019 during the Test match against Bangladesh in Kolkata.
During Day 3 of 2nd Test, Kohli was playing his 58th international innings across all formats and was looking on course of finally ending the drought. With the Kiwi bowlers getting tired, the 33-year-old played some gorgeous shots at Wankhede Stadium and fans had started to think that the D-day has come when he will finally equal Ricky Ponting's record of 71 international centuries.
But against the run of play, Kohli got an under edge while trying to play a cut shot off Rachin Ravindra and the ball went on to hit the stumps. An 84-ball 36-run knock ended and simultaneously, the dreams of Indian fans were also shattered as Kohli's reaction summed up the moment for everyone!
Fans express their disappointment on Twitter
Just like after every Kohli's dismissal in last two years, the Indian cricket fans once again expressed their disappointment on Twitter as the wait for the 71st ton of Team India's captain continues. One of the fans hilariously claimed that Ricky Ponting has done some 'black magic' as the centuries have stopped just before Kohli is one ton away from the record of former Australian captain.
Meanwhile, a section of fans reflected on the situation by making some hilarious comparisons to the time when Kohli scored his last century. While one stated that the price of petrol was Rs. 72/litre in comparison to Rs. 110/litre today, another made a remark that there were no cases of COVID-19 in the whole world two years ago.
