Ahead of the upcoming Premier League clash against Brighton on Friday, February 14, at the Amex Stadium, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca addressed a press conference where he insisted that they have no plans of signing a free agent striker after being questioned about the same. Over the past couple of transfer windows, the West London club have been linked with a move to sign a new striker, but nothing has materialised as of yet.

Notably, in their previous match, Chelsea suffered a defeat against Brighton 1-2 in the FA Cup fourth round tie, which coincidentally happened at the Amex Stadium last weekend. After exiting two Cup competitions in English football, Chelsea’s best chance of winning a trophy is in the UEFA Europa Conference League since they are 14 points behind the Premier League leaders Liverpool in fourth place in the standings, fighting for the Champions League spot next season.

We’re not planning to sign any free agent striker, we will work with the players we have: Enzo Maresca

As per one of the latest posts from an Italian journalist on the social media platform X, Fabrizio Romano shared the quote from Enzo Maresca about Chelsea not going into the market for a free agent striker anytime soon. It read, “We’re not planning to sign any free agent striker, we will work with the players we have. We’re also NOT blocking Deivid Washington’s exit on loan, he’s in talks.”

It is understood that Chelsea were linked with Victor Osimhen, Alexander Isak, and Ivan Toney ahead of the ongoing 2024-25 season, but they failed to bring either of them in. Moreover, with the current injury problems for the club up front, there have been rumours of Chelsea signing their former striker and fan favourite Diego Costa from the free agent market, but Enzo Maresca’s latest comments have put a dampener on the situation.
