T he chaos in Chelsea FC continues with vice-captain and left-back Ben Chilwell asked to leave the club by new manager Enzo Maresca ahead of their Premier League 2024-25 opener against Manchester City. After a decent last season which saw a late surge help the Blues qualify for Europe, Chelsea sacked their then-manager and has since signed a host of new players in the ongoing summer transfer window.
So far in the 2024 summer window, Chelsea has bought nine new players and has a massive squad ahead of a packed season. But with this massive number of players, a problem of plenty is created which has made it difficult for someone like Ben Chilwell to some playing time.
Chelsea manager asks 'struggling' Ben Chilwell to leave club
Addressing this issue, Enzo Marcesa said, "Chilly [Chilwell] is with us, but he has not been training for the last few days because he has been ill. The reason he did not play versus Inter was because, with Chilly, it is quite clear, even though I love the way he is, the problem is, he is struggling a bit to find the right position."
“This morning we had 22 players training, and if you ask all of them they will say they want to play against City on Sunday but that is impossible. When you train every day and do not get any minutes, it is not good for them or for me. I need to make a decision, and probably it is better to leave and go and get minutes. The transfer window is open, so we’ll see what happens."
