England and Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is set to travel to Spain to complete his permanent move to La Liga club Atletico Madrid ahead of the 2024-25 season. Gallagher has been a crucial part of the Chelsea set-up and was vital in the Blues' late-season surge as they clinched qualification for the UEFA Conference League after staying in the middle of the Premier League table through the majority of 2023-24.
As per Sky Sports, Gallagher failed to reach terms with the London-based club and hence Chelsea accepted a bid of around £34m from the La Liga club last week for the England international. But the deal was still doubtful as Gallagher hadn't agreed on personal terms with Atletico, pushing the Spanish side to set a deadline.
Gallagher to travel to Spain and complete Atletico Madrid move: Reports
The 24-year-old eventually accepted Atletico Madrid's offer a minute before the deadline, as per Sky Sports and will be travelling to the Spanish capital to complete the transfer. The Chelsea academy star is set to sign a five-year contract with the Madrid-based club.
Chelsea had interest from Premier League sides like Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur for Gallager. The Villans even made a bid but the 24-year-old rejected the prospect of joining Unai Emery's side. Similarly, the Blues also preferred selling the midfielder to a club outside the Premier League.
