The England all-rounder, Chris Woakes, sent out a post on his social media account X to reveal that the death of his father is the reason behind his current absence from cricket. The 35-year-old also remarked that his dad felt incredibly proud to see him play for Warwickshire and England, and he looks forward to doing it again in the near future.
Notably, Chris Woakes was the part of the Punjab Kings squad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season after they bought him for ₹4.20 crore in the mini auction. But, the 35-year-old didn’t take part in any of the matches for PBKS in the IPL 2024 season. Following this, he wasn’t picked in the England squad to play in the bilateral T20I series against Pakistan and the T20 World Cup 2024 shortly after.
It led to Chris Woakes taking to his social media account X to give an update on his current absence from international cricket and said, “The last month has been the most challenging of my life when unfortunately my dad passed away at the beginning of May. I've spent the last few weeks with the people most important to me, my family. We're all obviously grieving and trying to get through what is undoubtedly the hardest moment in our lives. It's times like this that perspective is at its greatest.”
“I will be back playing cricket for Warwickshire, who my dad loved dearly, when the time is right for me and my family. I know playing cricket for Warwickshire and England made my dad incredibly proud. I look forward to doing that again in the near future,” he added.
