The 14th edition of Indian Premier League is back and so are the controversies. After Delhi Capitals struck some early blows, Chennai Super Kings found themselves on the back-off in their opening game of the season. But the returning Suresh Raina proved why he is one of the most successful batsmen in IPL as he smashed a brilliant half-century to revive their innings.

Raina's innings ends in a controversial manner

The 34-year-old had started to make his intentions clear and was looking in an explosive mood. However, his brilliant innings ended in one of the most bizarre ways. Ravindra Jadeja played a shot towards deep backward square leg and it looked like an easy couple of runs. However, Jadeja's path was blocked by Avesh Khan as he turned back to complete the second run while Raina was halfway down the pitch. Chris Woakes, who was fielding at the boundary, took an advantage of the mix-up there and threw the ball at the striker's end. Rishabh Pant quickly dislodged the bails as a valiant knock by Raina ended in the most unfortunate manner.

Raina's dismissal led to CSK losing their way as skipper MS Dhoni was dismissed on duck two deliveries later. However, a brilliant partnership between Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja propel CSK to 188/7 in 20 overs.
