On Thursday, December 26, South African fast bowler Corbin Bosch hit jackpot with his dream debut in the first Test against Pakistan. Bosch made his debut for the Proteas in the series opener against Pakistan in Centurion. He came into bowl in the 15th over to break Pakistan’s opening partnership between Saim Ayub and Shan Masood. On the first ball of his Test career, Bosch did the job for his side and put an end to Masood’s knock just after the drinks break. With this rare feat, he became the third bowler in the passing year to pick a wicket on first career ball.
Not only this, but with this achievement, Bosch joined the list of four other players from his side to take a wicket with the first ball of his Test career. He joined the exclusive club of players including Bert Vogler, Dane Piedt, Hardus Vijioen and Tshepo Moreki. Overall, he is the 25th player to take a wicket off the first ball of career. Before him, West Indies’ Shamar Joseph took the wicket of Steven Smith at the Adelaide Oval, which was followed by South Africa’s Tshepo Moreki’s dismissal of New Zealand’s Devon Conway at Mount Maunganui.
He was the kind chasing excellence: R Ashwin lauds Corbin Bosch’s rare achievement in first Test
Following his rare achievement, the Proteas bowler earned lauds from former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who put an end to his glorious international career recently. Ashwin took to X to mention that Bosch was a part of the Rajasthan Royals three years ago in the Indian Premier League. Ashwin tweeted, “Corbin Bosch was at RR 3 years ago and was the kind who was chasing excellence. Has started off well with the ball but it’s worth remembering that he averages 40 plays with bat in FC.”
Talking about the match, Bosch ended the first two sessions with figures of 4/63, including the key wickets of Shan Masood, Saud Shakeel, Aamer Jamal, Naseem Shah.
