The decision to include cricket in the 2028 Olympic Games, set to be held in Los Angeles has been postponed until October. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Friday said that the decision over which sports would be included in five years would not be made now as originally intended, citing "ongoing discussions."

Cricket is still anticipated to be a part of the LA 2028 Olympics programme, although a report by ‘Inside The Games' claimed that "disagreements with the organising committee" were impacting the decision. Since the Olympic organising committees have historically shown a bias for individual sports, the sheer number of individuals involved could prove to be a barrier to admission.

“One of the agenda items originally planned for the IOC EB was a report by the IOC Olympic Programme Commission on the sports programme for the Olympic Games LA28,” a statement by the International Olympic Committee read.

“Due to ongoing discussions between the IOC and the organising committee, the Olympic Programme Commission has not yet had the opportunity to hold its meeting to prepare its final recommendation for the IOC EB,” the statement further elaborated. “As a consequence, the sports programme for the Olympic Games LA28 will be discussed during a later IOC EB meeting, to take place at a date to be decided,” it further added.

In an effort to appeal to the billions of subcontinental fans who don't have much to cheer for every four years when the Games are on, IOC President Thomas Bach has repeatedly stated that he would like to see the T20 format included in the Olympics, according to Fox Sports.

Cricket has been fighting for many years to be admitted to the competition. A decision is currently anticipated at the IOC meeting in Mumbai on October 15–17. Cricket is one of the nine sports up for participation in Los Angeles.
