Cricket will be part of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles with a few other new sports as per recent reports. The LA organising committee will be announcing the news of its choice of sports for the Games within the next 24 hours. Alongside the aforementioned sports, suggestions that lacrosse and potentially squash could also be proposed as additional sports for 2028.

The decision, which will se e intense discussions between LA and the IOC’s Olympic programme commission, will be officially confirmed at the 141st IOC session in Mumbai, which begins on Sunday. The development was confirmed by the Guardian.
Alongside cricket, it is understood that flag football, a five-on-five non-contact sports variant of American football, will be part of the 2028 Olympics. The decision will be great for the NFL as the organisation has been pushing for flag football to be part of the Olympic event to grow interest in the game worldwide.

Cricket was part of the Olympics, in Paris in 1900, when England and France played one match for the gold medal. But in the Los Angeles event, a T20 men’s and women’s tournament will take place to take advantage of the lucrative commercial market in the Asian subcontinent.
With the additions of these new sports and the return of baseball, softball and the addition of multiple new team sports, the International Olympic Committee’s hard cap of 10,500 athletes for each Olympics seems unclear.
