Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo overperformed Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane, and Erling Haaland to become the leading goalscorer in 2023. The 38-year-old Al-Nassr forward scored 54 goals in 59 matches for his club and country last year, recording his best goal haul in a calendar year since 2017. With this achievement, Cristiano Ronaldo clinched the Maradona Award for the best goalscorer at the 2023 Globe Soccer Awards.

The Dubai Sports Council-backed event is presented this year by Nakheel and will be hosted at Atlantis, The Palm on Palm Jumeirah. The 14th edition of the Globe Soccer Awards is scheduled for Friday, January 19.

Ronaldo has scored 54 goals in 2023 including 20 Saudi Pro League goals with nine assists in just 18 matches, while he has scored a total of 43 goals for Al-Nassr in 2023. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored 10 goals and made two assists in his nine appearances for Portugal in the European Qualifiers in 2023 to help his side top Group J with a perfect record.

 Following Ronaldo, PSG and France forward Kylian Mbappe scored  52 goals in 53 games, while Bayern Munich and England star  Harry Kane (52 in 57 games), and Erling Haaland of Manchester City and Norway ended the year with 50 goals in 60 matches.

Apart from the Maradona Award,  the world’s record goalscorer with 873 strikes, is also in line to win the Best Men’s Player, Best Middle East Player, and Fans’ Favourite Player at the 2023 Dubai Globe Soccer Awards ceremony.
