Former New Zealand cricketer and current Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming is in contention to replace Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited applications for the position of head coach of the Indian team. Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the current coach of the side will come to an end after T20 World Cup 2024, and the new coach will be appointed for a tenure of the three-and-a-half-year term.
As per the latest reports and sources, the Indian cricket governing body is considering Stephen Fleming as a potential successor to Rahul Dravid. According to the Indian Express, the current CSK coach is the favourite to take on the responsibility once Dravid’s tenure ends. However, with the BCCI’s condition that the coach will take on the role in all the formats, it is to be seen if Flemind applies for the position.
BCCI in talks with Stephen Fleming to take over coaching role: Reports
The reports further stated that informal discussions have taken place between both parties. It has also been learnt that Fleming hasn’t discussed with the CSK management yet about the same. Notably, Fleming became the head coach of CSK in 2009, and since then he has coached several teams including Melbourne Stars, Joburg Super Kings, Texas Super Kings, and Southern Brave.
The reports claimed that the senior players are keen to have Stephen Fleming as the coach of the side, owing to his technical knowledge and experience. Needless to say, having someone like Fleming as the coach would help the youngsters grow and make a strong core of the team.
