New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner pulled off a magical one-handed diving catch to dismiss Afghanistan's captain Hashmatullah Shahid in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Batting first, the Blackcaps posted a competitive total of 288 runs with Glenn Phillips, Tom Latham and Will Young scoring crucial half-centuries.

Then in the second innings, New Zealand got off to a sensational start as Matt Henry and Trent Boult dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran respectively. Coming back to the catch, Hashmatullah Shahidi was facing Lockie Ferguson in the 14th over.

After blocking away the fifth delivery of the over, Shahidi fended away a bouncer that looped towards square-leg. As the ball went up, Santer ran back, sent out a full stretch dive and held onto the catch with his left hand. The Afghan captain was dismissed after scoring eight in 29 balls with one boundary.
