In the latest update, Sri Lanka cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka has been granted bail over his sexual assault charges. The batter was granted bail on Thursday (November 17) following a hearing at Downing Centre Local Court.

Notably, this bail was granted keeping certain conditions. The 31-year-old is expected to report to the Eastwood Police Station on a daily basis, with a curfew of 9 PM to 6 AM. Under these conditions, he will have to surrender his passport too. Further adding to the bail conditions, the batter is prohibited from using social media, except in the presence of his legal representations.

The Sri Lankan batter was arrested for sexually assaulting a woman in Sydney earlier this month during the T20 World Cup 2022. Gunathilaka was arrested in the early hours of November 6, soon after Sri Lanka’s exit for the marquee tournament and was charged with four counts of sexual intercourse without consent.

After spending 11 days in custody and two failed applications of release, he has been granted bail on the third attempt, according to a Sydney Downing Centre local court document.

The left-hand batter was involved in a similar incident in 2018, following a suspension from the Sri Lanka Cricket, similar to this time. However, his charges were dismissed by the police later on.
