Australia opener and veteran of the game, David Warner will finally take the field for the last time in Test cricket as Australia takes on Pakistan in the third and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney, starting January 3. However, ahead of his final Test, the Aussie opener spoke of his successor for the opening slot in Tests.
While Warner picked Marcus Harris out of the three shortlisted names, Australian Head Coach Andrew McDonald has indicted that they are exploring multiple options. “Davey’s not a selector. I remember back to when Davey endorsed Matt Renshaw so I think the ne x t one will probably be Cam Bancroft and then Cameron Green and he’ll have all bases covered,” Andrew McDonald was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
He further added, “But it’s great when a fellow player endorses someone else initially. It means that they’ve probably excluded other players a well, but he was asked his opinion and we’re happy with him expressing that.”
The 42-year-old also clarified that all options will be considered and the decision will not be made until the deadline. “Cameron Green, as a discussion around who are the best six batters, has definitely been in the conversation,’ he said.
