Australia are currently taking on Pakistan in a three-match Test series. While the hosts won the opening Test by 360 runs, the Boxing Day Test which kickstarted on December 26 is being played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne. While the Aussie opener was dismissed at the s core of 38, the hosts accumulated 318 in 96.5 overs.
Speaking ahead of Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test, the Australian opener, who is playing his last in the Test series, named his replacement at the top in the longest format of the game. While Matt Renshaw, Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft are among the candidates in line for the opening slot, Warner picked his replacement.
The 37-year-old backed the Victoria batter Marcus Harris as the being the batter who was next in line to replace him. “It’s a tough one. It’s obviously up to the selectors. But from my position, I feel like the person who’s worked their backside off and has been there for a while in the background," Warner quoted.
“I think Harry’s been that person. He’s toured, he’s going to have that chance. He scored a hundred the other day (referring to Harris’ hundred against Pakistan for Victoria XI),” he further added.
At Stumps on Day 2, Pakistan trail by 124 runs after having put 194/6 on the board. While Mohammad Rizwan is batting at 29 along with Aamer Jamal at 2 off 26 in the middle.
