Argentina skipper Lionel Messi produced a stellar show on Sunday evening as he guided his national side to their third FIFA World Cup title. With seven goals and three assists, Lionel Messi was adjudged Player of the Tournament.
The legendary footballer emulated the glory of Diego Maradona in 1986 by lifting football’s most coveted prize after arguably the most dramatic World Cup final in history. Messi scored two goals in Argentina's 4-2 penalty shootout win.
Hours after Messi lifted the coveted trophy, he took to Instagram and posted a picture of himself with the World Cup trophy and wrote a special caption. While Messi’s post-WC triumph post is inching closer to breaking the record of the Instagram posts with most likes, Lionel Messi has already broken another record as he became the second celebrity with 400 million Instagram followers.
Notably, Cristiano Ronaldo is the most followed person in the world as he currently has 517 million Instagram followers. The Portuguese legend became the first person to pass 500 million plus followers on Instagram after posting a Louis Vuitton advert featuring himself and Lionel Messi.
