Chennai Super Kings pacer Deepak Chahar walked off the field after delivering just two balls of his over during the clash against Punjab Kings in IPL 2024. Five-time IPL winners hosted Punjab Kings in the 49th clash of the 17th Indian Premier League on May 1, Wednesday, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The game saw PBKS’s stand-in captain Sam Curran winning the toss and inviting the rivals to bat first. The defending champions pulled an average score of 167 runs with the loss of seven wickets.
In the second innings, Chahar opened CSK’s bowling attack but with two balls through his over, the 31-year-old walked off the field. Chahar seemed uncomfortable and after having a word with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, he decided to leave the field. Following his departure, Shardul Thakur completed his over.
I feel bad for Deepak Chahar: Irfan Pathan
Former Indian cricketer and commentator Irfan Pathan raised his concern for Chahar and said that he needs to sort his hamstring. Pathan tweeted, “I feel bad for Deepak Chahar. He needs to sort his hamstring out. May be Something to do with the back which might be connected to the hamstring.”
Chahar has been in and out of action due to his hamstring injury, since the last season of the cash-rich league. He sustained the injury during CSK’s game against Mumbai Indians earlier in the 2023 season. In the 17th edition, he missed a few games due to a recurrence of the pain and has been undergoing rehabilitation.
