The Golden State Warriors were set to lock horns with the Dallas Mavericks on January 19, Friday (IST). However, the league decided to postpone the game to be played at the Chase Center, California to a later day due to some unfortunate circumstances. The Warriors’ Assistant Coach Dejan Milojević passed away on Wednesday, and hence, the NBA decided to schedule the game for another day as a mark of respect.
Milojevic died after suffering a heart attack on Wednesday, January 17 (IST) during a private team dinner in Salt Lake City. The 46-year-old was in his third year as an assistant coach of the Golden State Warriors and helped them win the 2022 NBA Championship. Not only this, but he was a mentor to the two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and a former star player in his native Serbia.
The NBA announced postponing the game in an official statement and said, “The National Basketball Association game scheduled for tomorrow between the Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors has been postponed due to the passing of Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojević. The date for the rescheduled game will be announced at a later time. ESPN will now telecast the Brooklyn Nets at Los Angeles Lakers game on Friday night.”
The Warriors mourned the death of Milojevic, or Decky, as they referred him, and said, “We are absolutely devastated by Dejan Milojević's sudden passing. This is a shocking and tragic blow for everyone associated with the Warriors and an incredibly difficult time for his family, friends, and all of us who had the incredible pleasure to work with him. We grieve with and for his wife, Natasa, and their children, Nikola and Masa.”
