The 2025 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to kickstart in less than a week’s time and Delhi Capitals (DC) will eye to clinch their maiden title with a completely new-looking squad. While in the upcoming season, Indian all-rounder Axar Patel will be leading the side, the blue and the red franchise on Monday, March 17 named Faf du Plessis as their vice-captain.

The former South African cricketer will be seen assisting Axar Patel after wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul denied the leadership role with DC earlier this month. It is to be noted that Faf du Plessis will step in the shoes on the back of past experience, where he led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in three seasons.

Faf du Plessis named DC’s vice-captain ahead of IPL 2025

The franchise took to social media to make this announcement. In the post shared on X (fomerly called Twitter), DC captioned, “Pick up your phones, it’s your vice-captain calling �� ❤️”. Speaking of the 40-year-old, DC was the only franchise to bid for the Protean batter and acquired his services for INR 2 Crore.

With his appointment as Axar Patel’s deputy, he will surely be a sure starter for DC and is likely to open the inning alongside Jake Fraser-McGurk with Abishek Porel and KL Rahul to follow. Speaking of the upcoming edition, DC will kickstart their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who will be led by Rishabh Pant on Monday, March 24 in Visakhapatnam.
