Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals reportedly approached Mumbai Indians to trade for Indian captain Rohit Sharma. These reports surfaced after the five-time champions announced Sharma being replaced by Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya as captain after returning to MI via an all-cash trade in November.

According to Sports Today's Nikhil Naz, Delhi Capitals had approached Mumbai Indians for Rohit's trade but MI rejected the offer. DC wanted Rohit Sharma to lead in IPL 2024 but Mumbai wasn't willing to leave their legendary skipper.
Speaking in a YouTube video, Naz said, "Mumbai is making a blunder by letting go of a captain like Rohit Sharma, we want him and they went to Mumbai Indians saying give it to us as you don't want him give us Rohit Sharma. I'll name the franchise Delhi Capitals, yes they went saying give us Rohit Sharma but they couldn't complete the trade because franchises have a three-year contract."
Coming back to Mumbai Indians' announcement of Hardik Pandya's appointment, MI's global head of performance Mahela Jayawardene spoke about how the decision was taken to make their roster future-ready. In a press release on Friday, Jayawardene stated, “It is part of legacy building and staying true to the MI philosophy of being future-ready.
"Mumbai Indians have always been blessed with exceptional leadership right from Sachin to Harbhajan and Ricky to Rohit, who while contributing to the immediate success have always had an eye on strengthening the team for the future. It is in keeping with this philosophy that Hardik Pandya will assume captaincy of Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2024 season.”
