Delhi Capitals have reportedly opened talks with former cricketer Yuvraj Singh for a possible role in their coaching setup ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. After parting ways with head coach Ricky Ponting following the conclusion of the IPL 2024 season, Delhi Capitals are looking to bolster their coaching setup, and the latest development is a perfect example of it.
According to the report from Sportstar, Delhi Capitals, who have been quite mediocre in the last couple of seasons of the IPL, “are keen on bringing Yuvraj Singh on board.” Although the final decision is awaited on whether Delhi Capitals and Yuvraj Singh will be working together in the IPL 2025.
In the recent past, Yuvraj Singh was rumoured to take over the head coach role from Ashish Nehra at Gujarat Titans, but it didn’t quite materialise.
Notably, Yuvraj Singh doesn’t have experience of coaching a franchise T20 team in his career thus far. But he is known to work with the likes of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, along with a few other players from Punjab in recent times, taking them to the next level in their professional careers.
Sourav Ganguly, who is currently the Director of Cricket at Delhi Capitals, hinted that he was looking forward to taking over the head coach role at the franchise after the departure of Ricky Ponting. But the reports emerged afterwards from close sources at DC in regards to the franchise being interested in appointing someone else other than Sourav Ganguly in the role.
