With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 just round the corner, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been handed a massive blow. New Zealand opener Devon Conway is all set to miss the initial phase of IPL 2024 as he will undergo a thumb surgery.

New Zealand Cricket early on Monday, March 4 confirmed this update while announcing a replacement for the second Test against Australia. In its statement the cricket board also confirmed that Conway will undergo the surgery this week and will require close to eight weeks to recover. Check the top betting trends on the best betting sites in India and apps.   

“Opener Devon Conway will this week undergo surgery on the left thumb he damaged during the KFC T20I series against Australia. Following several scans and specialist advice, the decision was made to operate on Conway with a likely recovery period of at least eight weeks” the Blackcaps statement on X read. 

Knowing the time frame of eight weeks to recover from this surgery, Devon Conway is sure to miss the first four games for CSK after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule of the first phase of IPL 2024. 

Speaking of the MS Dhoni-led side, the reigning champions will kickstart their campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai on March 22. They will next play Gujarat Titans at their home turf, before moving to Visakhapatnam for a match against Delhi Capitals and Hyderabad for a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
