But with the two children of the royal family in attendance, did the Prince William and Kate Middleton break the Wimbledon protocol? The answer to this question is no. As per the rules for the grass court Grand Slam and the time-old tradition, kids can attend Wimbledon but only if they remain quiet.

However, they are not allowed in the Royal Box and children of five years of age and below are not allowed at Wimbledon, thus ruling out Prince Louis’ presence at the Grand Slam despite the latter turning five in April earlier this year.

It is to be noted that it was Princess Charlotte’s first visit, who is eight years old. Prince George, nine, however made his second appearance. “This is Charlotte’s first time, George came last year. They’ve been eagerly watching,” Princess of Wales Kate Middleton told Ella Ottaway (who runs the young people programme).

The three royal siblings however train with Swiss tennis star Roger Federer with the latter also giving private lessons to Prince George.
