The Sri Lanka Cricket has been jolted with another major blow as two more players have joined the list of injured players. Sri Lanka being the only side left to announce their 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023 continues to haunt with the long list of injuries and Dilshan Madushanka and Lahiru Kumara are two new additions to it.
While pacer Dilshan Madushanka has been ruled out of the squad with a torn oblique muscle, fellow pacer Lahiru Kumara remains doubtful. Dilshan is currently rehabilitating as the cricket board eyes to make him match fit for the ODI World Cup, scheduled to take place in October - November in India.
However, as reported by ESPNcricinfo, Kumara is suffering from side strain and might miss the continental tournament, set to commence on August 30 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The two have joined the list which includes Dushmantha Chameera, Wanindu Hasaranga . While Chameera remains ruled out with a shoulder injury he sustained during the recently concluded Lanka Premier League (LPL), Hasaranga, who finished as the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker in LPL 2023 is suffering from grade two strain and is highly unlikely to recover in time.
Apart from them, Kusal Perera and Avishka Fernando are recovering from COVID-19 after they tested positive for the virus just days ago.
It is to be noted that Sri Lanka will begin their title defense against Bangladesh at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on August 31.
