The five-time champions Mumbai Indians have been handed a massive blow just a week ahead of IPL 2024. With the tournament now just five days away from the start, Sri Lanka pacer Dilshan Madushanka has sustained a hamstring injury, which ruled him out of the ongoing Bangladesh ODI series.

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed his withdrawal from the series in a statement which read, “Dilshan Madushanka will not further take part in the ongoing tour as the bowler will return to start rehabilitation work after suffering an injury during the 2nd ODI.”
“Madushanka, who left the field during the second ODI while bowling, has suffered a left hamstring injury, as confirmed by an MRI scan performed on the player,” the statement further read. Seeing the state of the injury, the Sri Lanka pacer is set to miss the initial games for Mumbai Indians in the upcoming IPL 2024.
It is to be noted that Madushanka had a terrific ODI World Cup 2023 for his side. Overall, he finished as the third highest wicket-taker in the tournament and attracted INR 4.6 Crore from the Mumbai-based franchise in the IPL 2024 mini-auction.
The five-time champions, who will be led by Hardik Pandya this time, will open their campaign against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 24.
