Star Indian cricketer Deepti Sharma opened up about the change of venues for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. Sharma is aiming to bring an end to India women’s ICC trophy wait and said that the team is focused on the preparations despite the changes in the venue. Notably, the ICC recently shifted the World Cup venue from Bangladesh to UAE on Tuesday, August 20. The ninth edition of T20 World Cup is set to begin on October 3 in the UAE.
With such less time remaining for the tournament might hamper teams’ preparations. However, Deepti squashed any negative effects of change in the venue on the Indian cricket team. Deepti believes that a change in the venue doesn’t matter and the Indian team is well aware about the nature of wickets in the UAE.
Speaking to PTI, Sharma said, "It doesn't matter wherever the World Cup is happening, I just focus on how as an all-rounder I can contribute to the team's success. I just want to give it my all and the last 4-5 months have been fruitful for us, let's hope we continue the good work and end the trophy wait this time. We have a little idea about how the wickets will play in UAE." Notably, India’s best finish at the T20 mega-spectacle came in the 2020 edition when they were handed a defeat by Australia in the final.
I am enjoying my cricket at the moment: Deepti Sharma
The 26-year-old went on to speak about her recently delivered standout performances as an all-rounder and said that she is enjoying the game right now. “I am enjoying my cricket at the moment and this has enabled me to shrug the pressure off my shoulders. I have learnt from the other international cricketers that when you start enjoying the game, you do better on the field.”
She added, "I don't let pressure get the better of me, I have developed this habit since I played the first game in the Women's Super League back in 2018. I have developed this habit and made it a part of my game.”
