After defeating Devin Haney on April 20 at the Barclays Center, Ryan Garcia tested positive for the performance-enhancing substance ostarine, which garnered reactions from Haney, McGregor, and other stars from the combat sports. In a now-deleted tweet, former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor lashed out at Ryan Garcia and demanded a lifetime ban for "cheating".
After the news broke out, Ryan Garcia took to his official X account to post a video, and said, “Everybody knows that I don’t cheat…. Never taken a steroid. I don’t even know where to get steroids at the end of the day. I barely take supplements.”
The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) released a statement claiming that PED Ostarine was found in Garcia's two urine tests, which were taken a day before and after the fight. Conor McGregor took to X and slammed Garcia for cheating. He wrote, "Cheated the weight and was juiced, lifetime ban. Sad to see, sad to say. Sad and a bit sick. Don't come near me if I see you ever Ryan Garcia. I am actually disgusted."
McGregor also called out Sean O'Malley, who tested positive for using ostarine in 2018, and 2019, and offered a sparring fight with the two fighters. Conor wrote, "This ostarine it reminds me of Sean o malley was on that as well. I don’t like this, I’ll bust yous both up, do yous want a spar I will set flights for you both for a full on spar each."
Devin Haney also weighed in on the situation regarding Ryan Garcia’s alleged positive drug test and said, “We learned about this situation not too long ago and it’s unfortunate Ryan cheated and disrespected both the fans and the sport of boxing by fighting dirty and breaking positive not once, but twice.”
